Cake pops have been around for some time now. The new cupcake if you please and a great idea, I wish I could discover the latest trend instead of being a follower. I just have to keep thinking I guess.
After seeing these miniature one bite addictions now on sale at Starbucks, I decided to give them a try.
Don't try to make these if time is not on your side. They are very labour intensive, pernickety and a little messy. That being said go ahead and make them if you had a baking project in your plans. The end result is very cool and a winner with the kids. They make a great change from baking cookies or cupcakes
.
Things I would change for my next pop session,
buy a cube of green sponge foam used for fake flowers. This would make it easier to store the pops while they dry after dipping in chocolate.
Make sure to dip all the way in so that the chocolate creates a seal with the stick.
Don't make them too large, these cute pops can become heavy once dipped and finished.
Recipe,
1 box cake mix and bake as directed for a 13x9 cake.
1 Can of cream cheese frosting, 16oz
Good quality chocolate for dipping melted over a double boiler.
Lollipop sticks, probably available at your party store.
Once the cake is baked let it cool and then use your hands to turn it into crumbs.
Add the frosting and mix until It's like a really soft brownie, put it into the fridge for 10mins and It will be easier to roll into balls.
Roll into balls using your hands and then put them in the freezer until firm.
Melt chocolate and gently pierce the ball with a stick, holding the stick dip into the chocolate and let the excess chocolate drip back into the bowl.
Stick the finished pop into the foam to let it dry, this is where you could add other things like sprinkles, nuts or crushed cookies.
Good luck,
they are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteawesome...sadly we're a little too addicted to Starbucks here in our home and the kiddos are now asking for these every trip we make. I'd love to make them here where I can control their carb amount a little better with weighing and using carb factors. Thanks for the easy to follow directions :)
ReplyDeleteDo you have a recipe for this made from scratch?
ReplyDeleteHey Candice, sadly no recipe for these from scratch. I do have another cake pop recipe from scratch but it's a chamomile tea flavor which is really good if that helps..
ReplyDeleteThanks.
