Food Trucks....Or Not.

My plan for dinner tonight was to pack up the family and visit some food trucks to see if all the hype and hysteria really matched the food. Five trucks were scheduled to appear at a local spot not far from our house so we threw the kids in the car and off we went. This is where our plans took a slight twist because when we arrived the trucks were stationed in a really tight spot where parking is already a nightmare, no seating and long lines blah blah. It just wasn't going to work for us and two kids. Plan B was commissioned and we ended up visiting The Belmont Brewing Co. This is a restaurant which my wife and I used to frequent more before we moved farther from the beach many years ago. It's a microbrewery with a casual menu but the food has always been good with a great family atmosphere. I ordered fish and chips, a dish I miss incalculably since moving from Scotland and mom ordered the lobster pasta. Unfortunately there's no pictures of any food since it was inhaled along with some fine beers but I did manage to snap some pictures while we were waiting on our table. I hope you enjoy them.

Belmont Pier with Catalina Island in the distance. You can also see the huge container ships waiting in line to enter the Port of Los Angeles which is the sixth busiest port in the world when combined with the neighbouring Port of Long Beach

Looking towards downtown Long Beach and yes that is my daughter wearing a Flamenco dress to dinner. Don't worry I left my Flamenco pants and castanets at home

Two monkeys playing in the sand. You can see some of the huge cranes used to unload the millions of containers from the ships in the background

  1. Great photos (awesome flamenco dress...great to be at an age where one can go out in public wearing whatever takes ones fancy!)

I'm loving reading about the food truck phenomenon at the moment. I hope the trucks pull up to a more convenient spot soon so you can share your experience of it!

  3. Beautiful images! One of the great parts of having a girl, is that when she wants to leave the house in dress-up clothes, she's just more beautifully dressed. When your boy wants to leave the house in dress-up clothes, random strangers wonder why he's running around in a batman costume and cape.

Love that sunset! Thanks for sharing.

  4. Ah parking!
You could try the Wed lunch food trucks close to Redondo and Anaheim (I think) Greg and I went and although parking was still a tad of an issue it wasn't too bad.

  6. Fabulous photos of your kids & the beach! I don't make it to Long Beach often, but when I do, I make a point of visiting the Belmont Brewing Co!

I'm not sure about food trucks...I know they're all the rage, but who's checking to see if they're up to the same standards as restaurants?

I'll look forward to living vicariously through you guys when you do catch up with them!

    Have a great weekend!

  8. Sometimes "Plan B" works out for the best. I am interested in the entire food truck craze too. Austin has a great set up with "Trailer Parks" and parking!!!!

  9. Lovely shots of you kids and the local scenery. I was hoping to catch a glimpse of you in your funky Flamenco gear, and a closer shot of those lifeguards wouldn't hurt either :-). Thanks for sharing your blissful day out!
