Caramels For The Neighbours....

We are so lucky to live in such a quiet street. It's a cul-de-sac so the only traffic is from the residents themselves except the odd UPS truck or visitor. Having a six year old and an almost two year old makes this an ideal spot for them and the other kids to play in a somewhat safe environment but I don't think I'll ever let my guard down when the kids are playing or crossing the street. When you become a parent you immediately become the protector, almost like a Secret Service agent for the little ones but with no intense training or microphones stuck to your jacket. The only weapons you carry are the words "No" and "Time Out"

So every year we make a gift for the awesome neighbours we have, the people who are always there if you need help with something. Sometimes it's cookies or bars but this year I decided to make some caramels, adding some black Hawaiian sea salt to this batch. The kids will deliver them later today thanking them for being such great neighbours and I'll start thinking about next year...

Merry Christmas!

I'm linking this up to Jane Deeres Fusion Friday.

  5. It is great when you have good neighbors. It's something that you really have no control over. I'm sure with great gifts like this, would help even a grouchy neighbor be nice!

  10. You are so right about being a parent. I used to be so carefree and concentrated on what I wanted. Now that I have a child my radar is constantly on alert. I even try to think ahead of things so as to prevent anything bad from happening! Delicious candies!

  11. I think you must be an expert caramel maker by now! So you can answer my never ending predicament...what is the temperature in which you take your caramel off the heat? There is quite a range with the recipes...and I since you mentioned you took a poll with your friends, I'd love to know! Thanks!

  12. This is a brilliant gift idea and very beautiful. I never thought of making individually wrapped caramels as gifts, but why not? It's a fantastic idea that I'm totally planning to use :)

  14. When I was in school, we had a parent that would make similar caramels for EVERY bake sale. You had to be in line early to buy one of these sweets.
