One thing I've learned since I started blogging is how important it is to try and stand out from the other 5 billion food blogs, so I try and make my posts as unique as I can. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. It's really hard to create a brand new recipe from scratch but adapting one might make another blogger adapt yours and it just snowballs from there. Everyday I look at food and wonder how I can change it. I feel like this paragraph is just blah, blah, blah so lets get back to the brownies..stat!
Another piece of inspiration came from Trader Joe's chocolate dipped potato chips, If you haven't tried them you should! Just buy one bag because if you buy two, then you'll just eat both of them and be like, Damn you Gerry! And I don't want my readers getting all mad at me. Sooooooooo, this is how I came up with adding chips into brownies, a long weird way but I did it and I like them. I wish they were a little more salty but next time I'd probably add some nice chunks of sea salt on top. If chips and brownies just want to make you heave, you should still use Recipe Girl's recipe. It's dense and moist and you might come up with something else to add to it. I should add that I wasn't sure how the brownie troop would welcome brownies with potato chips so I made a regular batch for them and kept the chip brownies for myself!
How do you guys find inspiration for posts?
Prep Time- 10 minutes Bake Time- 25 minutes Yield- 9, two inch brownies
3/4 cup all purpose flour
1 Tablespoon cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 stick unsalted butter
5 ounces semi-sweet chocolate bar, chopped
3/4 cup white sugar
1/4 cup light brown sugar
3 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup chocolate chips
2 handfuls of your favorite chips
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees, Grease an 8x8 inch baking pan with butter and line it with parchment paper.
In a bowl, sift the flour, cocoa and salt and set aside.
Melt the butter in a sauce pan. Once melted add the chocolate bar and stir with a whisk until well combined. Next add the sugars and stir well. Let the mixture cool for about 5 minutes.
Whisk the eggs and vanilla into the chocolate mixture until smooth. Add the flour mixture and stir gently until well combined. Stir in chocolate chips.
Place the chips on the bottom of the baking pan. Pour the batter over the chips making sure to cover as much as possible. Carefully level the batter.
Bake for about 25 minutes, you want a moist brownie and it will set nicely as it cools. Let it cool for at least 1 hour.
Cut into squares and serve.

DeleteI tried putting potato chips into blondies once and it just didn't work. I'll have to give it another try. I totally agree with struggling to stand out. I made caramel filled blondies on my blog that I think are pretty unique, but potato chips take it to a whole new level. Here's the link if you want to see mine: http://piesandplots.net/caramel-blondies/

ReplyDeleteGreat idea, Gerry. I agree it's so important to try and stand out, but you do it authentically (which is all the better). I bet your kids voted you Dad of the Year after making these! Talk about bringing two faves together.
ReplyDeleteThis is genius, Gerry! I do like TJ's chocolate dipped potato chips. Your brownies I'm sure are so much better! This is a very unique idea, way to stand out from all the other food bloggers ;)
ReplyDeleteCompletely awesome! I don't think I can say much more, except pass one over this way... Wait, make it 3.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea!! Do the chips stay crispy, or do they soften during baking? I got introduced to chocolate-covered chips years ago and thought the idea sounded gross, but one bite and I was hooked. I even used chips in chocolate fondue once.
ReplyDeleteShirley, they went a little soft but still worked for me!
DeleteThese look so amazing! I love mixing potato chips in my sandwiches too!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid, I'd have potato chip sandwiches all the time :)

ReplyDeleteWhen I serve chocolate fondue, my favorite thing to dip is salty potato chips! These look incredible! I love that you left the chips whole rather than crush them. It made for some beautiful brownies!
